| Notes: This kit was given to me by my
good friend and club mate, Hank Kramer who flew F-4's and F-16's in
the USAF. This is some history he sent me about this particular
aircraft: F-111A 67-071 was involved in a Class A mid-air
collision mishap vs F-111A 67-098 on 17 February 1973, but was not
destroyed.
The 429th TFS Constant Guard V/Linebacker aircraft arrived in the
second phase of the deployment.
F-111A aircraft 67-071, call sign IGLOO 47, was on a scheduled
combat mission. During ingress the crew experienced some difficulty
with the attack radar system. To preclude an air abort the pilot
requested assistance from another F-111A crew that had completed the
target run and was egressing the area. This pilot joined on his wing
to monitor the bomb drop and to be sure that their system was
working properly. Approximately two minutes prior to release the
attacking pilot was unable to acquire the target on radar and
directed the other pilot to assume the lead of the formation. During
the formation change the two aircraft collided. The right wing of
the attacking aircraft and the left wing of the assisting aircraft
were damaged. Both aircraft landed successfully at Udorn RTAFB. Both
aircraft were repaired and returned to service. Flown to AMARC (the
"bone yard") at Davis-Monthan AFB on 20 June 1990. No longer
appears on the AMARC registry, and was probably chopped up in 2001.
