| An amazing "working museum" near Lakeland, FL. Went on a weekday
when they were not very busy so I was able to spend some time with one
of the docents there. He showed me some amazing things - a water cooled
rotary engine, an SBD Dauntless with a 4 bladed prop! Some of the
workshop and storage areas with thousands of old airplane parts. I was
particularly interested in the P-35, one of only 3 left in the world
that they are restoring. Another amazing thing is the small size of the
Sperry ball turret from a B-17. The art deco restaurant even has a
pretty good cheeseburger! |
